Whitening toothpastes from Thailand and reviews of their use

≡ Article 29 has comments

Today’s popular toothpastes purchased in Thailand are not nearly as safe as we would like ...

Toothpastes from Thailand are today, so to speak, a popular trend. Connoisseurs of natural and especially Oriental medicine, lovers of trying something new, and just traveler bloggers actively praise their acquaintances with these tools, aspirating calling exotic components - mangosteen, miswak, lindau ... And those who have not tried Thai toothpaste in action, it remains only to envy that brush your teeth with a simple Colgate or New Pearl, and not herbal miracle paste with Guayava extract and borneol ...

So maybe it's worth buying a jar of fashionable stuff?

The desire to buy an exotic product is fueled by the promises of manufacturers and sellers echoing them: whitening thai toothpaste on the assurances of sales agents, whitens tooth enamel in 2-3 applications, and the herbal toothpaste, according to the same promises, contains only natural ingredients, which in a couple of days relieve inflammation of the gums and their bleeding.

Especially in great demand are whitening Thai toothpastes, which promise a snow-white smile in just a few applications.

Meanwhile, the overwhelming majority of buyers of such toothpastes not only do not first consult with the doctor about the safety and efficacy of using these tools, but even observing some undesirable effects, continue to stubbornly brush their teeth with Thai exoticism. If you do this without understanding the mechanism of the work of the tool (as well as how and in what situations they should use it), then in some cases you can cause serious harm to the tooth enamel and gums.

This is confirmed by some reviews of ordinary people who have tried to brush their teeth, for example, the same whitening toothpaste from Thailand.

A characteristic feature of many toothpastes sold in Thailand, is packing them in small round jars.

Feedback

“We lived in Tae for a month, we just went there to rest. My husband also added two weeks unpaid to his usual vacation, so this was a real journey. So, we bought a local toothpaste, whitening, with noni. She just in such nice jars for sale, everyone recommends it, and it costs a penny. We decided to try to clean our teeth instead of ours. But my husband gave up after a week, and I after two. From her in the literal sense of the word aches! Her taste is good, I don’t know if it is natural, but it seems that she doesn’t smell like any special chemistry. But after a week of regular cleaning it is impossible to drink cold water - your teeth hurt. And from the brush hurt. On all fruits, the edge of the edge is immediately packed. I think she just erases the plaque with her teeth, so they start to hurt. But we tied up with her and returned to Aquafrech, taken from Peter more ... "

Anya, St. Petersburg

Thai toothpaste often really has a pronounced effect on the teeth, but this effect is not always useful. But first things first…

Features of Thai pastes

A significant feature due to which virtually any Thai toothpaste is more preferable in the eyes of domestic retailers is a low price. You can buy goods individually or in bulk not only in Thailand, but also via the Internet, and when you buy in bulk one jar will cost only about 10 rubles (respectively, the cost price is even lower).

If you buy pasta in bulk, the price for a piece will be very low.

Not all Thai pastes are packaged in jars - some are sold in ordinary tubes.

Subsequently, the same pastes are sold in the Russian Federation at the prices of their competitors of Russian or European production (that is, with a wrap of up to 1000%). Or a little lower - especially in order to increase demand.

On a note

The average price at which Thai toothpaste is sold in Moscow is about 150 rubles per jar. However, if you wish, you can easily find and buy it for 100-120 rubles.

By the way, the cost of the product is below 10 rubles per jar - this is a separate interesting question. How do you achieve such a low price? In part, the answer to this question can be obtained if you consider that the composition of many toothpastes from Thailand as an abrasive-polishing system includes alumina (in other words, clay). Yes, alumina is a powerful abrasive that can erase not only tooth enamel, but also sharpen hardened steel, but who cares about this? After all, if you say that the product is completely composed of natural ingredients (and clay is not natural raw materials), then people will buy it.

It is clear that when getting super profits from their goods, sellers literally flood online stores with them. But in order for pastes to sell well, they must also have some useful properties (or seemingly useful ones). And they have them:

  1. Whitening ability. Moreover, it is she who is known most of all - toothpaste from Thailand is often bought in order to bring a smile to Hollywood's whiteness a week.
  2. Natural composition - in addition to the above-mentioned alumina, extracts of herbs, fruits and other plant raw materials may also be included in the composition (why, in fact, pastes are called herbal). All this gives the product some antiseptic properties, due to which the prevention of caries and gum disease. Neither the photo below shows an example of herbal toothpaste, which is also whitening:Thai herbal paste sample
  3. Strong aromatic components in the composition, ensuring the freshness of breath.

In addition, almost every second Thai toothpaste has an original and very exotic taste and smell. Such exoticism is a wow factor, often becoming the main reason for choosing a means by the buyer.

Feedback:

“I tried Thai toothpaste, and not in Thailand itself, but upon arrival home. It cleans normally, as well as all usual pastes. But I was attracted by their composition. For example, I bought myself a very interesting and pleasant taste with mangosteen and peppermint. In general, there is a lot of these pastes, there are with mango, with guava, camphor. ”

Tatyana, Moscow

A special form of packing gives the product an additional unusualness. Many toothpastes sold in Thailand are packaged in round jars, from which the contents need to be scooped with a special spatula or brush (however, you should not do this with a brush, since every time you will add a portion of bacteria to the jar).

It is highly undesirable to take toothpaste from a can directly with a brush, as this causes regular contamination of the product with bacteria.

Special plastic spoons are used to collect pasta from the can.

Some pastes have a very thick texture, and for normal tooth brushing they need to be taken quite a bit - this makes the product even more economical, increasing the time spent.

And one more important feature of Thai toothpastes is the abundance and diversity of their types.

Types of toothpastes from Thailand

One of the most famous brands of toothpastes, brought from Thailand, are, perhaps, the Twin Lotus and 5 Star. And the first one is known for producing pastes in “normal” tubes.

Among the products of Twin Lotus are the following varieties:

  1. Twin Lotus Active Charcoal Toothpaste - with plant extracts and bamboo charcoal (sometimes written with activated charcoal). The composition includes guava extracts, cloves and mint, as bactericidal and anti-inflammatory components, as well as bamboo charcoal to clean the teeth from plaque. The paste has an unusual black color (see picture below).Thai toothbrush Twin Lotus Active Charcoal Toothpaste The composition of the Twin Lotus Active Charcoal Toothpaste includes coal, so the product has a black color.
  2. Twin Lotus Premium without fluoride, with bone tissue cuttlefish - is positioned as a whitening toothpaste.Twin Lotus Premium (without fluoride)
  3. Twin Lotus Day & Night - a set of two herbal toothpastes (to protect the teeth day and night), which include extracts of miswak, murai, and clinacantus.

The original Twin Lotus Day & Night set contains two toothpastes at once - for use in the morning (noon) and in the evening (at night).

5 Star - this is typical Thai pasta, sold in round jars. The following varieties are available:

  1. Toothpaste with coconut and herbs, designed to care for sensitive teeth;
  2. Refreshing with noni fruit;
  3. Simple mint flavored whitening;
  4. Papaya extract paste, which, according to the manufacturer, helps to successfully combat the formation of plaque and tartar.

The photo shows an example of another popular toothpaste from Thailand - The 5 Star.

Also on sale in Thailand, in some places in Moscow, St. Petersburg and in online stores there are pastes from other manufacturers:

  1. ISME RasYan Herbal Clove - paste with cloves, which has a powerful antiseptic and cleansing effect;
  2. Abhai Herbal Toothpaste, which consists of mangosteen and guayava.
  3. Siam Herb Extra Virgin - brown toothpaste from Thailand (with mangosteen, calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and camphor). Its main effect is whitening and bactericidal.
  4. AIMTHAI Organic Herbal Toothpaste ALL IN ONE - with tea tree extract. It is called universal due to the fact that it has a preventive anti-caries effect and at the same time contributes to whitening of the teeth;
  5. Punchalee Herbal Toothpaste with patchouli.

The photo below shows Thai pasta Siam Herb Extra Virgin:

Tube of pasta Siam Herb Extra Virgin.

This paste has a brown color.

In order to attract a buyer, manufacturers state in the properties of pastes almost everything that can contribute to sales, since there is no strict certification of products. The lack of strict control allows you to specify in the composition only those components that will positively affect the decision to purchase.

On a note

For example, many herbal pastes, for which a completely natural composition is claimed, would simply deteriorate when stored without appropriate preservatives. In addition, they would not foam and had a low cleaning ability without the presence of synthetic surfactants. However, will the intelligent producer write on a jar with paste: "Preservatives, sodium lauryl sulfate", when you can write: "Herbal paste, only natural ingredients".

Sellers and online stores usually just repeat everything that the manufacturer says, absolutely without going into checking the truth of the statements. Understand what qualities this or that toothpaste really possesses, it is possible only in practice, having bought the tool and tried it.

Feedback

“... Such jars in Thailand are being sold at every step. Inside the heavily pressed powder, but does not crumble. Very well whiten, not to the toilet whiteness, of course, but immediately obvious.Of the minuses - a lot of foam, directly rushing from the mouth, you spit it out, and she again rushing, as if she had taken the shampoo in her mouth. And still too vigorous, the effect of freezing the lips, and if it hits the chin, then it becomes numb. Strange effect. I cleaned it twice a day for a week, there was a slight bleeding of the gums. Although the teeth, as in advertising, I did not spit out, but I realized that I need to use it less often. ”

Olya, Novosibirsk

It is necessary to use Thai pastes with caution, as some of their properties may well lead to dental health problems.

When brushing your teeth with Thai toothpastes (if you decided to try exotics after all), you need to be careful: there is no control under international standards, and, as noted above, compliance with what is written on the label, to what is in the bank is not strictly checked. Some Thai toothpastes can actually be dangerous and harmful to use, especially if used incorrectly - for example, regularly several times a day.

On a note

Do not confuse Thai and Chinese toothpastes. Chinese toothpastes, there is a huge variety: from whitening to healing, and many of them are a kind of clones of famous European brands.

Many Chinese pastes can be bought today via the Internet, but judging by the reviews, their effectiveness for solving various dental problems does not exceed that of our familiar domestic remedies.

Are they bleaching?

Thai toothpastes really whiten the enamel, and in some cases, the effect becomes noticeable after a few days after the start of use. We are talking here about the mechanical bleaching (lightening) of the tooth surface due to the removal of pigmented plaque from the enamel.

Such a whitening toothpaste from Thailand is really able to remove quite quickly.

Dental calculus often accumulates on the inner surface of the lower front teeth.

Feedback

“Toothpaste from Thailand is just super! No other paste provides such bleaching. In the clinic, I bleached my teeth with some special compositions, then covered the enamel with gel, and after that, everything literally started to stick to my teeth. I drank coffee - my teeth darken, I just ate - they became even more yellow. I was really scared. On the advice of a friend, she bought Thai pasta in a small jar, she brushed her teeth for a week, so they even became cleaner than after the clinic. I did not expect it directly. True, the taste of this paste is specific, but it is worth suffering. ”

Olga, Moscow

However, such powerful whitening when using Thai toothpastes has its negative properties - you cantogether with a pigmented patina, simply wipe off a layer of tooth enamel, revealing dentin. This, in turn, will lead to increased tooth sensitivity and a number of other problems.

Imagine a situation: a person initially has hypersensitivity (hyperesthesia), there are wedge-shaped defects in the cervical area, and he frantically, twice a day brushes his teeth with a stiff toothbrush using a whitening Thai toothpaste. In general, to put it mildly, nothing good will come of it and, most likely, such a person will soon be in the dentist’s chair.

In the presence of wedge-shaped defects, the use of whitening toothpaste with high abrasivity will only aggravate the situation ...

A great many toothpastes from Thailand contain alumina as an abrasive. Even if it is not clearly indicated in the composition, it is often possible to find titanium dioxide, aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide — components of clay — in the list of components. Sometimes they just write: “white clay”. Moreover, it is not indicated on any paste that, during its preparation, the abrasive component underwent a special treatment for rounding off the corners of the crystals, which would ensure less damage to the enamel during tooth brushing.

Obviously, after brushing your teeth with such a “clay-containing” composition, the layer of plaque, along with a certain amount of enamel, will literally be torn off by abrasive components. The visual effect is there - the teeth will really become white. And in parallel, they will start to hurt and react sharply to cold, hot, sour, and even to the simple chewing of coarse food.

However, if you have naturally healthy tooth enamel, if you don’t know what tooth sensitivity is and you do not have wedge-shaped defects, then there is a layer of so-called “smoker raid” and tartar, then a neat and rare application of Thai bleaching dental pasta can be considered quite safe.

Clay, which is part of Thai pastes, removes not only pigmented plaque, but also partially the tooth enamel itself.

Feedback

“I am on a wave of all this hype with Thai pasta and bought myself a jar. How beautiful they write about the natural composition and grass! And in fact, when I dug deeper, I found out that there was sodium lauryl sulfate in the composition. The one that is used in cleaning products, which foams and from which stomatitis develops. So much for the natural composition. Began to understand further. In the reviews, people write that it really clears the paste, but after it the teeth become sensitive. This is a complete hello. That is, it is not paste, but simply some kind of emery paper. What can I say about my experience? There is no experience. I took a little on my finger, soaked it, I saw how it was washing and foaming, so I threw out the whole jar, and did not risk it. ”

Rules for the use of Thai toothpastes

First of all, you need to understand that whitening toothpastes, especially Thai, which have a very high abrasiveness, are contraindicated for use by people who have increased tooth sensitivity. The second important point is that even if you have everything in order with your teeth, then you should not use Thai whitening toothpastes too often (once a week will be quite enough).

Those Thai toothpastes, which are sold in conventional tubes, are used in the same way as any other toothpaste - they are simply squeezed out of about a pea on a toothbrush and thoroughly clean all teeth.

Thai pastes in tubes are used as usual - squeezed directly onto the toothbrush (and it is better to use a small amount).

But pasta from round jars more difficult to use. First, they should be used in much smaller quantities - literally at the tip of the bristles of a toothbrush, the paste is collected from a can (not with a brush, but with a special spatula) and immediately applied to the surface of the teeth. The first few seconds, until the composition does not foam, you need to brush your teeth very gently and gently.

Bleaching pastes from jars need to be taken with a special spatula in a very small amount - the piece shown in the photo is quite enough.

Secondly, it is better to rarely use paste from cans, alternating their use with less aggressive products. For example, in the morning the teeth are brushed with Thai paste, and in the evening - normal. The reason for this is the strong abrasive ability of Thai pastes, due to which their enthusiasm can lead to a violation of the integrity of enamel.

The whole truth about toothpastes from Thailand: myths and reality

So we gradually approached the part of the review of Thai toothpastes, concerning the various myths and rumors that surround this product. Let's see how true the most common ideas about these pastes.

Myth 1: Toothpastes from Thailand are very useful because they have a natural composition.

Reality: There is no mechanism for strict certification of toothpastes in Thailand. This means that, for example, only natural components can be listed on a jar with pasta, and the manufacturer will modestly keep silent about all the “chemistry”. In addition, the therapeutic efficacy of many natural ingredients used in Thai pastes is not medically proven. Guayava, bone tissue of cuttlefish and noni is a bait for lovers of the exotic and natural.Whether they help is a big and open question.

Myth 2: Thai pasta harmless whiten teeth.

Reality: According to reviews, Thai pastes are really bleached, but not always harmless to healthy teeth. More often they are a kind of means for exchanging health for beauty. The teeth become white for a while, and then due to the wear of the enamel and the vulnerability to bacteria, they begin to hurt and become damaged.

Myth 3: Thai pastes are more useful than ordinary Lakaluits and Blend-a-Medov.

Reality: Some components of many Thai pastes are the same as in the most ordinary domestic or European. And in the case of abrasives - more harmful. Russian and Western manufacturers create pastes in which abrasives are prepared using special technologies that reduce abrasive stress on enamel. In Thai pastes, these technologies do not apply, due to which the manufacturer saves on product creation and provides him with a low price. The healing properties of most exotic herbal extracts and supplements have not been scientifically confirmed.

It should be borne in mind that the healing effect of many of the ingredients that make up Thai toothpastes has not been scientifically confirmed.

Myth 4: Pastes from Thailand are so useful that everyone buys them and advises them to friends.

Reality: Thai pasta buy, because they are cheap and unusual. And also because having super profits on them, sellers have the opportunity to make good advertising. Including - order fake "reviews" on blogs and forums. The popularity of Thai pastes is an example of the fact that buyers are ready to buy low-quality goods, so long as it is exotic and cheaper.

As a result, buying Thai pastes in order to fully switch to their use instead of the usual tooth care products is not worth it. Such experiments can turn into serious problems and costs for further dental treatment.

However, we are all human, and sometimes we really want to try the novelty. Well, it is quite possible, the main thing - without fanaticism, neatly and with a full understanding of the situation. Here, with this approach, Thai toothpaste can do more good than harm.

If you have ever used toothpaste from Thailand to practice, be sure to leave your review at the bottom of this page.

And my girlfriend gave me a DR. At first, I did not even understand what it was. Some jar is round with a white-toothed grin 🙂 I started to use it - I liked it very much, I asked my friend where she was taking it - she said that she was ordering on the Internet.I found something to my liking - with a clove, plus all the advantages, and an excellent refreshing effect!

I also really liked the pasta in the pink box of herbal clove. First, the sensitivity of the teeth increased. But after a week of application everything went away. The gums stopped bleeding, breathing stays fresh for a long time. Kills all the nasty aftertaste completely. The teeth are not very white, but it is not so important, they have a decent color. If the paste without a box and spatula is 100% fake, do not even try.

They brought as a gift from Thailand 2 jars of pasta. Remained delighted! No erase enamel, bleeding gums, tongue and chin nemeneniya. A huge plus that you need to use on a brush the size of a small pea, which significantly saves the amount of paste used. Then, when these 2 jars ended a year later (I was brushing her teeth alone, and the husband and daughter could not stand the smell and taste of cloves), she also began to order. I tried all sorts: coal and coconut, and pineapple, and bleaching, and herbal soft, and herbal thermonuclear, and some kind of classic with a painted uncle on a jar.Except for the price, I did not see the minuses ... From Ty, I was brought to her as a gift, but the price was 70 baht (approximately 70 rubles). Now it costs 200 rubles due to a jump in currency, and this is a little expensive. But still, I will not trade this paste for any colgate and splat. Great toothpaste, that would not write in this article.

I forgot to add: any Thai pasta, even with coconut, pineapple, grass, papaya, charcoal, etc., has the taste and smell of cloves. Absolutely all (!) Of these pastes with cloves, they seem to have no others. If someone does not like the smell and taste of cloves, then Thai pasta is not for you, because cloves are probably the main component of any pasta from Thailand.

But I do not constantly brush, 3-4 times a week, I would use it more often, but my teeth are very sensitive, so I alternate with regular toothpaste. I recommend to everyone.

Guys, I also rested in Tae, and bought myself pink such jars of this very paste. At first I was delighted, my teeth really refreshed, but then after 1 week of application, in the morning and in the evening I was just terrified that the teeth turned yellow and there seemed to be transparent spots inside them, especially on the front teeth. Before that, when I cleaned my teeth with this toothpaste, everything was ok, and then at some point my teeth began to break, very sensitive and gums began to bleed. The fact that the teeth turned yellow, was noticed by my relatives. In short, I will go to the dentist tomorrow. Now very worried. And do not use it often. Well, three times a month and all. And I saw the effect and let's clean the week! Now to tears!
